Restoration Man!

While I was in the Blue Mountains (Leura to be precise). I happened upon a small market run by the Country Women’s Association of New South Wales.

At this market, I found a beautiful (if rusted) old hand plane, and I plan to restore it.

It’s Falcon Pope! They were made in Australia between 1946 and 1956.

Falcon No. F5

It’s got it where it counts

The first job was to dismantle it. and lay out all the pieces.

The blade is in pretty bad shape.

Though I think it’s salvageable.

The part I’m most worried about is the sole of the plane.

It’s very rusted but thankfully doesn’t have much pitting.

So it’s time for the vinegar bath.

So that’s where we are up to now.
